The Koh Samui Regatta 2012

Koh Samui is an exciting island to be on at anytime of the year, but one of the best times to visit this paradise island is during the Koh Samui Regatta that takes place every year. Yachts from all over the world compete in this event that has fast become known as the most fun and laid back regatta in South East Asia.

This year the regatta takes place on May the 26tt and June 2nd and many yachts from Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Thailand will register. The practice race, skippers briefing and the opening party will take place on the 27th.

These days the regatta has become something of a festival and appeals to a far wider audience than just hardened sailors. The event has become a popular spectator sport as many arrive on these tropical shores to watch the marvelous sight of the race in progress.

A great place for spectators of this unique event, to enjoy the yachts and the fun and excitement of the Samui regatta is at Centara Grand Beach Resort at the Daily Tavern from 5pm until 7pm. There is nothing quite like the spectacle of these incredible yachts returning home from an enjoyable days sailing while sipping a cold glass of beer, glass of white wine or a cocktail. The tavern will have extended hours on Friday, the last day of sailing, until 9pm. This is also a great place to meet other people who, while they may not be sailing, enjoy all things oceanic and some interesting banter and chat about the race and other sailing spots around the world.

Although many of the dinners, parties and celebrations that take place during the Koh Samui Regatta week are by invitation only, everyone is welcome to join the sailors on Wednesday the 30th of May at the Beach Republic party. At this event it is not uncommon to find just about everyone on the island who will not want to miss one of the wildest parties Koh Samui sees in its annual social calendar. The party starts at 7pm. Tickets are only five hundred baht and include open bar from 7 until 10pm with beer wine and spirits plus a section of tapas and wood fired pizza. The party features a live band and a very impressive, not to be missed fireworks show. You can find Beach Republic in the ever popular beach village of Lamai.

You can find out more about Samui Regatta, times and locations of events and races, and buy Samui Regatta merchandise by visiting http://www.samuiregatta.com

Even if you know nothing about sailing there is no better time to visit Koh Samui and enjoy the festival atmosphere, sun drenched beaches, lazy summer days and what promises to be one of the biggest parties of the year to which everyone is invited. This event, now in its ninth year, will certainly be memorable for sailors and non- sailors alike and will do nothing but gain in popularity year after year.

Phuket The Pearl In The South

When you think about property, whether it is your primary home, second home, holiday home or rental villa, we all know that the first thing to consider  is location, the second is  location and the third is location.

One of the major factors that makes Phuket so attractive to home buyers, home renters and holiday makes is just that, its location. Not only is Phuket located in a part of the  world that offers an all year round enjoyable climate, the island has an international airport with direct flights from all over the world and that makes it not only easy to get to and from but ideal to commute from, too.

Only 32 kilometers from the centre ofPhuketCity, the airport plays an important roll in the success of the island and its tourist industry and is the second busiest passenger airport in the country, second only to Suvarnabhumi.

Cutting out a long wait inBangkokand flying directly to Phuket can considerably reduce your travel time, leaving you more time to sit back and relax and enjoy your vacation. You can enjoy direct travel fromMoscow,Berlin,Kuala Lumpur,Singapore,Seoul,Rome,Milan,Taipei, Hong Kong, Penang,Beijing,Brussels,Sydney,Perth,Brisbane,Melbourne,Tokyo,Copenhagen,Oslo,StockholmandParis. Not only does this make travel to Phuket very attractive to holiday makers, it makes the island more accessible than other destinations inThailandand, therefore, a fantastic place to invest in real estate both for your own pleasure and to let, with almost guaranteed returns on your investment.

With a healthy economy and an ex-pat community that comes from just about every corner of the globe, Phuket has developed into a truly multi-cultural island with experts in every field from all over the world. For this reason you will find the infrastructure not dissimilar to that in the west and that can only bring peace of mind.

For visitors to the island, Phuket has an incredible amount to offer. World class villa accommodation in beach front, mountain and ocean view locations can increase the enjoyment of your holiday, with far more space per person to enjoy than the equivalent in hotel accommodation often at only a percentage of the price. It is not hard to see why the discerning tourist can see the benefit of having five star facilities that don’t have to be shared with other hotel guests.

With its incredible range of holiday villas, friendly locals, superb climate, endless leisure opportunities and ease of access there is no doubt that Phuket will continue to flourish and delight visitors to its shores for a long time to come.

A great way to get the maximum benefit out of your stay, be it as a couple, with family, or with a group of friends, is to rent a private villa on the island where you can enjoy all  the five star facilities you would expect to find in a hotel but at a fraction of the price. The other essential benefit of having your own villa is not having to share those facilities with other hotel guests and how much better off you are in terms of personal space.

Nothing can beat lazy sunny days around your own private pool in paradise and, in Koh Samui, there are so many pools to choose from. Villas on the island come in all shapes and sizes and all have individual features that make them unique. Choose from beach front, sea view and hillside villas that are as close to, and as far away from, the hustle and bustle of the island as you would like them to be. Beaches On Koh Samui

There is a lot more beaches on  Koh Samui than the most well known beach of Chaweng, located on the east side of the island. If you prefer somewhere with a few less hawkers harassing you to buy everything from ice cream to a henna tattoo, then why not head on down to Lamai beach, the second major beach, that is also located east of the island further south and a little quieter than Chaweng beach. The sand is particularly white, and fine, here which is why it is considered to be the best beach on the island. Lamai offers plenty, in the way of shopping, and eateries, without the hustle, and bustle, of its big sister, Chaweng.

If you feel like getting away from it all, then head farther south, to the far, southern, shores of the island. Just a ten minute drive from Lamai, you will find Hua Thanon,  home to a Muslim, fishing community. Hua Thanon  has dozens of colourful, longtail boats, and some superb fresh fish restaurants. Travel a little farther and you will find Laem Set. Laem Set has huge, smooth, boulders on the beach with coconut palms that lean over at picture perfect angles. This under developed area still retains that ‘paradise lost’ magic and is a superb place for a lazy tropical afternoon. Laem Sor and Bang Kao are rocky beaches with their own natural beauty. A famous landmark at Leam Sor is the Chedi that sits at the waters edge and is the perfect hideaway for some serious relaxation. Thong Tanote offers breathtaking scenery and offers an amazing view of Koh Tan and Mutsum islands.

As you head back up the west coast of the island you will find Nathon , better known for its markets and the ferry, that takes you to the mainland, than its fine white sandy beach (when the tide is out). The water is very shallow up to 100 meters out making it ideal for families with children.

As you come to the north east shore you will find Ban Thai, a small, but very pretty, fine sand beach that offers amazing views of neighboring Koh Phangan. This quiet, and unspoilt, part of the north shore of the island is well worth a visit and there are a couple of really excellent restaurants on the beach.

Right in the middle on the north shore enjoy the tranquility of Meanam beach, that continues to attract those looking for peace and quiet. Maenam Beach is a long stretch of uninterrupted beach. Both small backpacker, and five star resorts, live side by side here making it a “something for everybody” area. Maenam has a handful of great restaurants that are superb for both lunchtime and evening dining.

No visit to Koh Samui is complete without a visit to Bophut that is home to the charming ‘Fisherman’s Village’, known for its romantic restaurants and beach side bars and cafes. The beach is on the north shore, looks over Koh Phangan and is worthy of a visit during the day, and night when several restaurants offer romantic beach dining.

If you carry on round you will come to Bang Rak where you can find an amazing amount of bars, and restaurants, Ban Rak has a seemingly endless white sandy beach. Many of the day trips to the other islands leave from its piers, as well as the legendary Full Moon Party speedboats. Normally very quiet during the day it is an excellent beach for families with children

Continue round to the far north east of the island and you will find Choeng Mon Beach. Choeng Mon Beach is made up of a series of high quality resorts as well as some affordable Thai restaurants. One of the quieter areas of the island, Choeng Mon offers a relaxed, easy going, lifestyle and a beautifully pristine white sandy beach.

Samui really does have something for everybody and its beaches are certainly no exception.
